A youth group, dubbed “Youth for Mahama (YFM)”, has been launched with the aim of ensuring that President John Dramani Mahama wins the December elections.

The group which has representation in all ten regions in the country would also serve as a rallying point of all youth groups nationwide interested in ensuring the success of the National Democratic Congress.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Chief Spokesperson of the group, Mr Selorm Amevour, recounted that the Late President Mills’s incorruptible and selfless leadership was dedicated to the interest of the underprivileged.

He said it was important for the youth to claim their rightful positions in national governance by doing all that they could to elect a leader who would be responsible and accountable to the youth.

Also, the highest tribute that the youth could pay to the memory of the Late President Mills was to stand up to the challenge of social progress and economic development.

This, he, said could be done through selfless public spirited activity in defence of the gains of the 2008 electoral revolt and to advance the goals of social and economic democracy.

Mr Amevour added that President Mahamah had contributed immensely to youth related activities and has also supported and facilitated several projects.

“The projects include the rice sector support programme which was initiated to support rice farmers increase their yields, the cotton support project, the national mango support project, the SADA afforestation project, the sheanut factory project at Buipe, among others”, he explained.

He called on the youth to remain committed to a common goal of having a President who is willing to work with the youth for progress.

He also urged them to avoid being used by any political party or politician to cause anarchy, confusion or mayhem in the upcoming elections.

“Let us all use our energy to work and ensure that we elect a leader who has a track record of seeking our interest”, he urged.
